My father served on the uss oak hill from 1943 - 1946. His name was Rufus Jacobs. If you ever met my dad, he was easy to remember, he only stood 5'1'' tall, but one hek of a nice guy. He was from Kansas and enlisted in the navy on his 17th birthday. During my 24 years in the US Air Force I enjoyed my many visits to the many countries the USS OAK HILL had visited with my Dad. Even a stopover on wake island on the way home from Vietnam. Thank you for your service.

He said Okinawa was the toughest of all.   My email is eeeldridge@yahoo.com if anyone has any other info.  He is still kicking ( not so high) at 89!  He would love if I could share some stories with him.

If you have any memories you wish to share my sister and I would love to hear from you. He said it was the greatest time of his life serving in the South Pacific aboard the Oak Hill.
